Hiiii! Remember that time when I came here to weep about how I couldn’t get books? Well, that’s changed! Now, I have so many options, I have to be placed on a ban periodically. Fellow book
hoarders nerds, let me share with you some of the places where I get my fix:
Africareeds: Their website is all-inclusive: articles, book reviews, an online bookstore, and a sort of writers’ hub. They also have used books sold at half-price. Their books are a bit pricey, but they have a wide variety of in store, from academic to motivational to fiction. They offer free delivery when you buy over three books, and a percentage of their proceeds goes towards a good cause. They will deliver to you anywhere in Nigeria.
Amazon: Tried and true, they have any book you want. Of course, there is the matter of shipping time and cost; Amazon UK delivers between 8 and 12 business days (standard delivery, I think), while Amazon US delivers between 18 and 32 business days. The wait can be agonizing. But, there are courier service providers who offer warehouse space to which Amazon (or any other bookstore/shop) can deliver your shipment, (for a fee, of course) and ship to you within days.
Amab Books: A bookstore and book publisher in Minna. They have an amazing array of titles and will ship to you very quickly. You’ll have to pay a token for delivery. Find Amab Books here. They offer nationwide delivery.
CSS Bookstore: Another brick and mortar store in the heart of Lagos Island. They have rare Nigerian classics (Akinwunmi Ishola’s Saworoide, Oleku, Efunsetan Aniwura), all Amos Tutuola’s books, and all D.O Fagunwa’s books. They also have Western classics and award-winning books. Generally a joy to my spirit. I usually can’t stop grinning whenever I go there.
Laterna Bookstores: They have an online store, and a brick and mortar one. They stock motivational books, novels, and Christian titles at very very affordable prices.
Roving Heights: First time I placed an order, they delivered within hours! I can’t possibly tell you how glad that made me. Their books are affordable, and they have a nice range of contemporary fiction, both Western and Nigerian. If there’s new book you’ve heard about or seen on Bookstagram and you want it now, Roving Heights is your go-to. You can also request a title, even if it’s not listed on their website. They deliver anywhere in Nigeria.
Terra Kulture: This is a brick and mortar store, located on Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. They have a wide variety of titles, from classics to contemporary fiction. Very affordable too.
Used Books: For this one and some more, I will refer you to Zaynabtyty’s list; it did wonders for me.
